Minimum Distance Decoding

چکیده

Suppose we have a concatenated code where the outer code is an [N,K,D]Q code, and the inner code is an [n, k, d]q code, with Q = q. In section 4 we will see that the concatenated code is actually an [Nn,Kk, Dd]q code, but for now we will show the weaker property that it is an [Nn,Kk, Dd/2]q. Consider the näıve decoding procedure which uses the inner decoding scheme on each received symbol, then applies the outer decoding scheme.

A New Decoding for Polynomial Residue Codes with Non-Pairwise Coprime Moduli

This paper presents a new decoding for polynomial residue codes, called the minimum degree-weighted distance decoding. The newly proposed decoding is based on the degreeweighted distance and different from the traditional minimum Hamming distance decoding. It is shown that for the two types of minimum distance decoders, i.e., the minimum degree-weighted distance decoding and the minimum Hamming...

Channel Metrization

We present an algorithm that, given a channel, determines if there is a distance for it such that the maximum likelihood decoder coincides with the minimum distance decoder. We also show that any metric, up to a decoding equivalence, can be isometrically embedded into the hypercube with the Hamming metric, and thus, in terms of decoding, the Hamming metric is universal. keywords: Coding Theory;...

A new procedure for decoding cyclic and BCH codes up to actual minimum distance

In this paper, a new procedure for decoding cyclic and BCH codes up to their actual minimum distance is presented. Previous algebraic decoding procedures for cyclic and BCH codes such as the Peterson decoding procedure and our procedure using nonrecurrent syndrome dependence relations can be regarded as special cases of this new decoding procedure. With the aid of a computer prokram, it has bee...

Algebraic Soft-Decision Decoding of Reed-Solomon Codes Using Bit-level Soft Information

The performance of algebraic soft-decision decoding (ASD) of Reed-Solomon (RS) codes using bit-level soft information is investigated. Optimal multiplicity assignment strategies (MAS) of ASD with infinite cost are first studied over erasure channels and binary symmetric channels (BSC). The corresponding decoding radii are calculated in closed forms and tight bounds on the error probability are ...

Decoding of repeated-root cyclic codes up to new bounds on their minimum distance

The well-known approach of Bose, Ray-Chaudhuri and Hocquenghem and its generalization by Hartmann and Tzeng are lower bounds on the minimum distance of simple-root cyclic codes. We generalize these two bounds to the case of repeated-root cyclic codes and present a syndrome-based burst error decoding algorithm with guaranteed decoding radius based on an associated folded cyclic code. Furthermore...

Optimal thresholds for GMD decoding with ℓ+1 over ℓ-extended Bounded Distance decoders

We investigate threshold–based multi–trial decoding of concatenated codes with an inner Maximum–Likelihood decoder and an outer error/erasure l+1 l –extended Bounded Distance decoder, i.e. a decoder which corrects ε errors and τ erasures if l+1 l ε+τ ≤ d−1, where d is the minimum distance of the outer code and l ∈ N\{0}. This is a generalization of Forney’s GMD decoding, which was considered on...
